1-27-22   THOUGHTS

We must teach our children the simple principles found in the readings below.  That will be an easy task if we ourselves have learned them and practiced them.  When we live and think in sync with God’s design for us, our ways should find happiness.  I hasten to add that the happiness will be of the nature of “the peace that passes understanding” and  not stuff.  Fundamentally, these scripture areas teach us how to live!

Prov 3:1-18    My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;  2  For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you. 3  Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4  So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. 5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
7 ¶  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
8  It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. 9  Honor the LORD from your wealth And from the first of all your produce; 10  So your barns will be filled with plenty And your vats will overflow with new wine. 11  My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD Or loathe His reproof, 12  For whom the LORD loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
13 ¶  How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding. 14  For her profit is better than the profit of silver And her gain better than fine gold. 15  She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. 16  Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. 17  Her ways are pleasant ways And all her paths are peace. 18  She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast.

Matt 5:3-12
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4  "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5  "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. 6  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7  "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9  "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10  "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11  "Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12  "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

My Prayer:
Lord, help us to be humbly kind and true in all that we say and do.  Teach us to mourn for the souls we meet who do not have Jesus.  Help us to bear up when we are persecuted.  May we allow ourselves to learn from your discipline.  Please O Lord, teach the joy and rightness of giving.  Give us wisdom and understanding as we seek you in your word.
In the name of Jesus our Savior          Amen
